Renowned for the design and development of websites for a number of travel bureaus in the southern United States, CINIVA Systems of Virginia Beach is working closer to home with its latest project - a travel guide to one of the state's most enigmatic destinations.

Settled originally in 1670, decades after the Jamestown colony was founded, Tangier Island is largely known for its role in the crabbing industry. A part of the Eastern Shore area of the state, Tangier Island is actually isolated from the mainland, boasting a population of under a thousand families - many of whom have lived and worked on the island for generations. The people of Tangier Island are known for their courtesy to visitors, their antiquated work ethics, and a unique dialect shaped from centuries of Gaelic, Irish, and English influence.

With the pending launch of GoTangierIsland.com, this small community hopes to boost the economy through tourism. Presently guests to the island may arrive by ferry and enjoy cozy accommodations at any of Tangier's three bed and breakfast inns. GoTangierIsland.com will offer online visitors and detailed guide of the area, including restaurants and souvenir shops, plus a history of the island and the life of the Tangier "watermen," whose long days in the Chesapeake Bay yield blue and soft shell crabs for seafood lovers.

Suggested weekend itineraries will be made available to prospective visitors interested in experiencing the life of a waterman first-hand. Excursions on crab boats and brief talks on the island's ecosystem are among the activities guest can enjoy during their stay.

For planning a visit to Tangier Island, visitors are invited to go to www.GoTangierIsland.com and request more information.

In addition to helping promote Tangier Island tourism, CINIVA has designed and maintained websites for other area travel organizations, including the City of Norfolk, Stafford County, Virginia, Currituck County in the Outer Banks, and the Greek Island of Karpathos.
